What Items are Dishwasher Safe?

What Items are Dishwasher Safe?

Are you that person who never has time to do the dishes, so they pile up in the sink until there’s no choice but to wash them all at once? If you are, then you’re likely also wondering what items are dishwasher-safe. There are some surprising things that can go in the dishwasher and some that can’t.

What does it mean to be dishwasher safe?

Dishwasher safe means that an item can withstand the rigors of being cleaned in a dishwasher. This includes withstanding high temperatures and strong detergents. Most dishwashers have a cycle that reaches temperatures between 120-140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some items cannot withstand these high temperatures and strong detergents and will break down or be damaged if put in a dishwasher. It is important to always check the manufacturer’s recommendations before putting any item in a dishwasher.

What Items are Dishwasher Safe?

So, what items are typically safe to clean in a dishwasher? Dishes, glassware, and flatware are all common items that are made to be dishwasher-safe. Many cooking utensils, such as pots and pans, can also be cleaned in a dishwasher as long as they are placed on the top rack. Some plastics may also be dishwasher safe, but it is always best to check the manufacturer’s recommendations before cleaning them in a dishwasher.

What happens when you put something in the dishwasher that isn’t supposed to?

If you put something in the dishwasher that isn’t supposed to, it could break the dishwasher or cause other problems. Here is a list of items that should not be put in the dishwasher.

  • Knives: The detergent and high water pressure can dull your knives over time. Handwash them instead.
  • Cast iron cookware: The harsh detergent and high water temperature can strip away the seasoning on your cast iron pan. Stick to hand washing.
  • Nonstick cookware: Again, the detergent and high water temperature can damage the nonstick coating on your pans. Handwash these as well.
  • Crystal: The heat and detergent can cause crystals to crack or break. Wash these by hand as well.
  • Delicate China: China is usually safe to put in the dishwasher, but if it’s particularly delicate or old, it’s best to hand wash it.
  • Wooden cutting boards and utensils: The water and heat can cause wood to warp or crack. Handwash these items instead.
  • Silver: Silver can tarnish in the dishwasher. Handwash it instead.
  • Aluminum cookware: The high water temperature can cause aluminum to discolor. Handwash these items as well.

No matter what you are washing in your dishwasher, it is important to remember that not everything is dishwasher-safe. Make sure to check the labels of your products and only put those items in the dishwasher that are designated as such.Read more about Titan Plumbing, appliances and plumbing fixtures, and get the latest tips/tricks on our blog: https://www.bringthetitan.com/blog/

Great service, was quick to come out and help with a leaking fitting. The price was a little high, but understandably due to the service being provided. The tech was awesome, explained everything well and was very courteous. Will recommend.
